When the days get shorter and temperatures drop, there’s nothing better than spending a few hours in front of a crackling fire with a glass of wine in hand. If you don’t happen to have a fireplace at home, head to one of these cozy Virginia wineries, which offer outdoor seating with fireplaces, fire pits, and private heated bays. 

NORTHERN VIRGINIA

Cana Vineyards & Winery has several outdoor heated options in the winter, including about a dozen traditional fire pits and Solo Stoves. The covered front porch and upper deck are outfitted with patio heaters for individual tables, and the popular Sunset Pavilion has ceiling heaters with a beautiful stone fireplace at the end of the pavilion providing extra heat for those chillier winter days.

Greenhill Vineyards—Middleburg

Loudoun County’s Greenhill Winery & Vineyards has stone fire pits and propane-fueled fire pits and heaters. The majority of the spaces are available for reservation on the winery website, while the remaining allow for walk-in seating. 

Magnolia Vineyards & Winery—Amissville

Enjoy a wine tasting beside a fire pit at Magnolia Vineyards & Winery (winds and weather permitting). If the weather isn’t ideal, grab a seat on their semi-enclosed covered porch, outfitted with heaters to keep you warm. 

Two Twisted Posts Winery—Purcellville

With five outdoor fire pits, four small metal fire pits, and one massive stone fireplace section for groups, Two Twisted Posts Winery has plenty of cozy outdoor seating areas for the winter. A newly enclosed area with heaters supplements the private fire pits, which are available to reserve ahead of time for $10 an hour (the fire pits are also available for walk-in seating if not in use).

Potomac Point Winery—Stafford

Enjoy a luxurious wine experience with your friends or family at Potomac Point Winery when you rent one of their private lounge tents, provided by local tent company Wild Tribe Co., which are best suited for groups of four to eight people. All lounge tents are heated and offer views of the vineyard below. Two of the tents include a private fire pit, where you can roast s’mores purchased as kits from the winery tasting room. Each reservation is allotted two hours to enjoy the space and includes a staff member for personal food & beverage service from the winery’s dining menu, which consists of cheese platters, small plates, flatbreads, desserts, and more. Potomac Point Winery also has five bistro fire pit tables available for parties of one to ten guests. Both the tents and the bistro seating have food and beverage minimums per person and the tents are subject to an additional rental fee. The luxury tents and fire pit dining tables can be booked online; it is recommended to book well in advance, as seating is limited. 

8 Chains North Winery—Waterford

Gather around the fire pits at 8 Chains North Winery on those frigid winter days. Pair your wine tasting with one of their s’mores kits to add a seasonal touch to your visit. No reservations needed; fire pits are first-come, first-serve. 

Endhardt Vineyards—Purcellville

One of Loudoun County's newest wineries, Endhardt Vineyards have four solo stoves outside available on a first-come, first-serve basis, as well as a larger stone campfire site suitable for larger groups and available for reservations. Venture inside to grab your tastings and warm up by their cozy indoor fireplace.

Casanel Vineyards & Winery—Leesburg

Leesburg’s Casanel Vineyards & Winery has four fire pits spread around their property as well as a few heaters on the patio. Glasses and bottles of wine are available by the fire pits, while the patio service also includes self-guided wine flights. Reservations are required for all guests.

Bozzo Family Vineyards—Purcellville

Bozzo Family Vineyards offers reserved outdoor seating through their online reservation system as well as open seating available to walk-in patrons. Outdoor seating options include two fire pits and four seating sections warmed by outdoor propane heaters.  

CENTRAL VIRGINIA

Visit King Family Vineyards during the winter and get toasty around one of their eight smokeless Burly USA fire pits (these are made in Virginia!), available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Love the fire pits? Purchase one from the winery gift shop and you’ll be able to recreate the magic of King Family Vineyards at your own home! The rest of the winery’s outdoor seating is warmed with supplemental heaters, so even if you miss out on the fire pits, you can enjoy a glass of wine on the patio. 

Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyard—North Garden

Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyard offers three communal gas fire pits spread over their expansive lawn for guests to gather around while sipping wine, roasting s'mores, and soaking in breathtaking views. The s'more kits can be purchased for $10, include the components to make 4 individual s'mores, and are available Friday through Sunday at the winery.

Ashton Creek Vineyard—Chester

For winter seating at Ashton Creek Vineyards, snag one of their two fire pits or a seat on the winery’s heated patio. No reservations are needed for fire pits or patio seating. 

Montifalco Vineyard—Ruckersville

Montifalco Vineyard offers two-hour reservations for their outdoor seating on the hour from 12-3pm Friday through Sunday with wine tastings, pours by the glass, and bottle service. Pair wines with items from their cheese, charcuterie and sweets menu, or bring your own food to enjoy with your wine. Seating options include four propane fire pits, four tables beside propane tower heaters, and three wood-burning fire pits. Additionally, four sofa lounge seating areas with fire pits are available for walk-in seating or by prior request. Picnic tables and adirondack chairs are spaced throughout for visitors on a first-come, first-serve basis. Reservations can be made through the winery’s website.

Glass House Winery—Free Union

To combat cold weather, Glass House Winery installed nine private tables with propane heaters, three large outdoor patio heaters, and a traditional wood burning fire pit that is available for walk-in seating. 

Early Mountain Vineyards—Madison

In addition to seven fire pit seating areas spaced across the property, Early Mountain Vineyards has patio seating sections with space heaters. To reserve patio seating, book on the winery website; all fire pits are for walk-in seating only, and are only open when weather permits. 

Valley Road Vineyards—Afton

Both communal and reserved private “FireGlobes” (a wood-burning variation of a fire pit) that seat up to eight people are available at Valley Road Vineyards to keep guests warm and toasty. Reservations are required for all groups of five or more people and can be made by calling the tasting room. While the FireGlobes are prioritized to guests with reservations, they can be used by walk-in guests if they are available. Two non-reserved FireGlobes that seat up to four people are located in the Patio and Grove areas for “first-come, first-serve” complimentary seating. The winery offers bottle and glass sales, several different tasting flights, and mulled wine by the glass, and a selection of “Grab & Go” food can be purchased from the tasting room (guests may also bring their own food). 

Revalation Vineyards—Madison

Eleven fire pits spread around the outdoor patio at Revalation Vineyards allow visitors to savor a glass of Virginia vino even in the chilly winter weather. 

Reynard Florence Vineyard—Barboursville

Reynard Florence Vineyard currently has two fire pits, two patio-style heaters, and additional outdoor seating on their property. All outdoor seating is open for walk-in visitors and does not require reservations, but groups of six or more should call ahead to ensure sufficient space and availability for seating. 

SHENANDOAH VALLEY

Barren Ridge Vineyards—Fishersville

The owners of Barren Ridge Vineyards built their winery on the family’s former apple orchard, creating a state-of-the-art winery while preserving the original structure and wood beams of the apple barn. A patio with six outdoor propane heaters and a stone fireplace offer seating on brisk winter days, and there is one outdoor propane fire pit available as well, which can be reserved ahead of time by calling the winery.

Cave Ridge Vineyard & Winery—Mount Jackson

In the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains overlooking the Shenandoah Valley, Cave Ridge Vineyard has both fire pits and heat lamps spread around their outdoor seating areas. Six tables in the lounge area have sofa seating and fire tables that accommodate groups of two to eight people, and large patio heaters placed throughout the courtyard and covered pavilion keep you warm while you’re wine tasting. Beginning in January, fully-furnished private heated igloos will be available to rent for groups of two to eight people. Heated tables and fire pits available for reservation or walk-in; make your reservation by calling the winery or book online.

James Charles Winery & Vineyard—Winchester

James Charles Winery has several private fire pits available for reservations, spread across the lawn with a scenic view. The fire pit reservation includes a s’mores kit for a sweet treat roasted over the fire and a soft, fleece blanket. Purchase a glass of your favorite wine and cozy up by the fire, or lounge on one of the outdoor couches complete with patio heaters. A glass of mulled wine is the perfect addition to any visit on these chilly winter days! The winery has a number of savory food options that pair beautifully with your perfect glass of wine.

Iron Heart Winery—Allisonia

Iron Heart Winery is offering private 15- and 20-foot enclosed bell tents that are heated with small wood stoves and furnished with antique home furniture and decor like coffee tables, hand-stitched quilts, and woven rugs. These tent rentals include outdoor fire pits and extra seating, making them ideal for groups. A six hour tent rental includes a complimentary bottle of wine, free glasses and corkscrews, free firewood, and a cooler with ice. 

Abingdon Vineyards—Abingdon

Abingdon Vineyards has five fit pits spaced out on the winery’s lawn area and a heated outdoor patio section. No reservations are needed.
