Historical Significance

The oldest structure on the Virginia Tech campus as well as the first permanent English speaking colony in the Allegheny Mountain. Solitude is the site of the Draper Meadow Settlement and massacre, where Mary Draper Ingles was captured and her long road home to freedom began. Solitude has also been the home to two Virginia Governors. http://spec.lib.vt.edu/archives/solitude/
